In Britain and other Commonwealth Countries, this art form is presented at Christmas time, usually opening on Boxing Day (December 26th). In a tradition, dating back many many years, it is loosely based on a popular Children’s story / nursery rhyme or fable. It was used to introduce children to the theatre. It has proven to be an exceptionally good idea, as you can find Pantomime, both in large and small towns or cities all over the country, as a special Christmas treat.  Many continuing up to six weeks.

It is silly, noisy, boisterous, with corny jokes, colorful sets, outlandish costumes and plenty of audience participation.  Many well known actors enjoy to perform in a Pantomime. Even Queen Elizabeth 11 and Princess Margaret acted in a Pantomime as children.
